ACT 3 MACBETH

SCENE 1:

Characters: Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Banquo, Lenox, Rosse, Attendant, murderers

Location: Forres. A room in the palace

Time: Day. Unknown

Events: A crowning ceremony takes place where Macbeth is officially named king. Banquo starts to express his fears about Macbeth killing Duncan and wonders whether his own prediction about his offspring becoming royalty will come true. Macbeth deeply inquires about Banquo’s riding intentions. Macbeth realises his descendants will not follow him to the throne and decides it necessary to take action against Banquo by convincing two murderers that Banquo is the cause of all their problems. The murderers begin to believe this and think it their duty to kill Banquo and his son Fleance as Macbeth is the new king and his knowledge deemed wise.

Quote: “It is concluded: Banquo, thy soul’s flight, if it find heaven, must find it out tonight”

SCENE 5:

Characters: Hecate, the three witches

Location: The heath

Time: Unknown

Events: Hacate is very bothered that the witches were involved with Macbeth’s dealings and she was not and is determined to lead Macbeth to his destruction.

Quote: “Hark! I am called: my little spirit, see, sits in a foggy cloud, and stays for me”

SCENE 6:

Characters: Lenox and a lord

Location: Somewhere in Scotland

Time: Unknown

Events: Lenox speaks his suspicions about Duncan and Banquo’s deaths, however he is cautious to talk against the king. The lord he is talking to reports that Malcolm is with the english king, Edward the Confessor, and that Macduff is joining him there to hatch a plan to attack upon Macbeth. Some wealthy people are starting to turn against Macbeth and look to Malcolm in hope of freeing them from his rule because ever since Macbeth has been crowned order has not been restored to Scotland.

Quote: “Give to our tables meat , sleep to our nights, free from our feasts and banquets bloody knives, do faithful homage, and receive free honours, all which we pine for now. And this report Hath so exasperate the king that he prepares for some attempt of war”
